Análise: Black Eagle Basico Gi

O tempo passa, muitas coisas mudam no mundo e basicamente na vida de toda a gente e esse tem sido certamente o caso desde a minha última análise.
Algo que, no entanto, não mudou, foi a minha preferência por gis acessíveis e o meu decrescente entusiasmo acerca de gis bling quando comparado com o meu gosto por designs mais simples e, ouso dizer, com mais bom gosto e classe.

Quando fui confrontado com a oportunidade de analisar (mais) um gi de jiu-jitsu da Black Eagle foi-me dada a difícil escolha entre o Predator BJJ Gi (sendo "Predator" a marca da Black Eagle dedicada a BJJ) e o Basico BJJ Training Gi. Apesar do Predator fazer um óptimo papel equilibrando um design mais exclusivo com um aspecto limpo e com classe e mantendo um preço razoável, eu tinha de ir pelo Basico porque tenho um fraco por pechinchas e também porque assim teria a oportunidade de fazer comparação directa com o Nova Basic da Tatami  e o Lightweight BJJ Kimono da Tuff – dois competidores directos na mesma categoria de preço!

Review: Black Eagle Basico Gi

Time passes, many things change in the world and pretty much in everyone's lives, and that's certainly been the case since my last review.
One thing that has not changed though is my preference for less expensive gis and my growing lack of enthusiasm regarding bling gis versus my love of simpler and, dare I say, more tasteful, classier designs.

When faced with the opportunity to review another one of Black Eagle's jiu-jitsu gis I was given the difficult choice between the Predator BJJ Gi ("Predator" being Black Eagle's brand dedicated to BJJ) and the Basico BJJ Training Gi. While the Predator does a damn good job balancing a more exclusive design with a classy and clean look while keeping a reasonable price tag, I had to go with the Basico because I'm a sucker for budget kits and that way I'd be able to do a direct comparison to Tatami's Nova Basic gi and Tuff's Lightweight BJJ Kimono – two direct competitors in the same price category!

So let's get started, shall we?

Preview: Black Eagle Raptor BJJ Kimono

"Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."

And it landed indeed. Part of Black Eagle's ongoing move to separate their BJJ product line from their other martial arts lines, Black Eagle did a bold move proposing a limited run of their Raptor gi - a pre-order only edition limited to 500 units. There's a Black model with red stitching/embroidery, a White model with black stitching/embroidery and my favorite, a White model with purple stitching/embroidery.

Please note that this is a pre-production model and there are several differences to the final product which you may now pre-order at Black Eagle's website!

E pousou mesmo. Parte do plano da Black Eagle de separar a linha de produtos de Jiu-Jitsu Brasileiro (BJJ) dos produtos de outras artes marciais, a Black Eagle fez uma jogada arrojada propondo uma edição especial do seu "Raptor" limitada a 500 unidades. Há uma versão em Preto com detalhes em vermelho, uma versão Branca com detalhes em preto e a minha preferida - outra versão em Branco mas com detalhes em roxo.

Notem bem que este modelo que tenho é de pré-produção e haverá várias diferenças para o produto final que já podem reservar no site da Black Eagle!

Análise: Tatami Nova Basic BJJ Gi

Quem conhece a minha opinião sobre gis em geral sabe que não me interessam gis de Jiu-Jitsu Brasileiro (BJJ) acima dos €75/£65/US$100, a não ser que sejam feitos à medida ou escolhidos e misturados de uma selecção de vários tamanhos adaptada ao meu físico (calças A2x + casaco A3, por exemplo). Por isso assim que a Tatami lançou o modelo Nova Basic BJJ Gi, eu gostei logo dele. Simples, discreto (não gosto de gis cheios de rococós) e barato. Na altura o casaco utilizava malha de algodão trançado a ouro (gold weave) da qual não sou grande fã já que tem tendência a encolher de forma pouco previsível mas seria algo com o qual poderia viver se o comprasse.
Então a Tatami lançou a actual versão, melhorada com um tipo de malha diferente à qual chamaram "High Tech Weave" (trad. "Malha de Alta Tecnologia") e a minha curiosidade aumentou exponencialmente e fiquei curioso quanto à sua qualidade e como se compararia com gis da concorrência dentro do mesmo preço e características.

A curiosidade termina agora que não só analiso o gi mas também o comparo com um dos seus concorrentes, o Tuff Lightweight Kimono.

Review: Tatami Nova Basic BJJ Gi

Those who know my opinion on gis know that I am not interested in any BJJ gi above €75/£65/US$100 unless it's either tailored to my size or mixed and matched from several size options outside the usual A1/A2/A3 sizes. So, as soon as Tatami came out with the Nova Basic BJJ Gi, I was already liking it. It was understated and plain (I don't like flashy/pimped gis) and it wasn't expensive. It was made of gold weave which I'm not a big fan of since it tends to shrink unevenly, but I could live with that if I was to buy one.
Then, Tatami came out with the current, improved version with a different weave they named "High Tech Weave Jacket" and my interest spiked and I wondered how good it was and how it compared with some of the other offers in the same features/price-range.

The wondering comes to an end now when I not only review the gi on its own but also compare it to the Tuff Lightweight Kimono.

Análise: Preto & Branco - Tuff Fightwear Lightweight BJJ Kimono

Após alguns meses a usar o gi Blitz Lutador e tendo começado a treinar na ArtSuave do Prof. Marcão, senti necessidade de ter um segundo (e terceiro) gis. Além de aumentar a quantidade de gis disponíveis, tinha em mente que fossem acessíveis mas com o mais qualidade possível e com um verdadeiro corte de gi de Jiu-Jitsu Brasileiro (BJJ) como deve ser, para variar.
A Tuff é uma marca Inglesa que vende material de luta em geral e este Lightweight Kimono - Kimono Leve - (ou mais correctamente, gi) tinha-me chamado à atenção há já uns meses. Diz a Tuff que este é o gi mais leve no mercado e que foi testado extensivamente para aguentar o rigor do treino, mas além disso o preço parecia ser perfeito para o que eu procurava...

Review: Black & White - Tuff Fightwear Lightweight BJJ Kimono

After some months using the Blitz Lutador and having joined Marcão's ArtSuave I felt the need to get a second (and third) gi. Besides quantity I was aiming at a cheap but quality gi which was fitted as a BJJ gi should be for a change.
Tuff is a british company who sell fightwear and their Lightweight Kimono (gi, actually) had caught my attention some months ago. They claim their gi is the lightest in the market and that it's tested extensively to withstand the rigors of training and the price seemed perfect for what I wanted.

Design your own crazy-ass BJJ Gi challenge

Many times have I fantasized about how the perfect gi for me would be. The one gi that would make forget there were countless other gis for sale. I'd have it in the three legal colors (white, blue and black, preferably regular blue and navy blue) and five or six of them so I didn't have to do the laundry before the weekend even if I trained twice a day every monday to friday.
It would be lightweight, less than 1.8Kg for an A3, probably some kind of single weave (pearl weave seems to be the norm right now), it would have reinforced and taped triple stitching including in the sleeve cuffs and rope-style cord for the trousers. Also, tapered style keeping in mind tall slim guys like me. Well, it's for me so duh.
Also, and very important, it would have a clean look. I'd go with a discreet-eccentric design over the more obvious "look at me and recognize from afar" path every time. For example, I'd (and do, and will) use a pink mouthguard but wouldn't dye my hair pink. Confident discreet eccentricity - that probably sums it.

So, when my man Seymour aka Meerkatsu sent out a challenge to us BJJ Gi Addicts/bloggers, to design a crazy-ass BJJ Gi, I thought I'd have to push the eccentricity and be that bit more pretentious.
Another thing I thought was that I wouldn't design anything I wouldn't wear - even in competition if the chance presented itself.

Review: Blitz Lutador Pro-Star BJJ Kimono

Howdy boys.

Had been practicing BJJ for a couple of weeks when I got this, my first BJJ Gi.
I had no experience whatsoever with other BJJ Gis (only Karate Gis) and wanted something affordable (not much more expensive than a cheap Judo Gi) but with good enough quality to get started.
